If you’re a student with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), or you’re the teacher, parent, or carer of someone who finds the world of STEM as fascinating as we do, then read on to find out more about the events we organise and deliver throughout the year.

Our outreach events are an ideal opportunity to try out exciting activities, have fun and meet other like-minded people, as well as the chance to find out more about subjects and careers that could be perfect for you. Our activities are supported by undergraduate and postgraduate students who are always happy to answer your questions about what it’s like to study at Leeds.

Schools outreach activities

Join us at subject taster days, summer schools, and teacher CPD. We offer the following activities, among others:
•    Futures programme – an opportunity for Year 12 students to develop your insight into the various courses and what it’s like to study at a Russell Group University.
•    Workshops and taster sessions – we offer a range of talks, workshops, and taster sessions for students both pre 16 and post 16.
•    STEM lectures - An opportunity to hear from researchers in STEM and expand your knowledge in a range of topics including antibiotic resistance, marine science, climate and sports science, and meet our undergraduates to find out more about studying STEM degrees at Leeds.
•    Summer Schools – Suitable for Year 12 students, these courses provide an introduction to student life at the University of Leeds.

For more details of our activities visit the STEM website and subscribe to our newsletter.

In addition to subject specific activities, the Educational Engagement team work across the UK with schools and colleges to raise awareness of, and aspirations towards, higher education, offering a comprehensive programme of activities.

Online courses

We also have a range of free online courses across STEM, designed to give learners a taste of studying these topics at degree level.

Public engagement activities

The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences participates in a range of public engagement activities, bringing our cutting-edge scientific research to local and international communities.
