Bryony Stentiford
- Course: Environmental Engineering and Project Management MSc
- Job title: Business Development Manager
- Company: IRCWASH
What have you been doing since finishing your studies?
I have been Living in Amsterdam and trying to convert my 14 years project management experience in the events industry into my ideal job - working as project manager within the WASH sector or food security sector for an international NGO.
What company are you working for, what is your role and what does it involve?
I am currently working for an international NGO doing marketing and communications. I produce online and offline marketing and communications and promote our members messages to stakeholders such as the UN, telecommunications companies, governments, regional organisations and foundations.
What experiences at Leeds do you think have particularly helped with your career/will help with your future career?
I enjoyed working on group projects, I think it's a great learning experience for everyone for the real world, particularly highlighting how everyone contributes different amounts to each project. It was important to me that we got the best result possible even if half of the group would do the majority of the work, and that follows through into working life too.
Looking back, why did you choose to study your particular course and why did you choose the University of Leeds?
I wanted to add a more technical skillset to my soft skills gained through work experience and I was also living in Leeds at the time.
What was the best aspect of the course/University and why?
I enjoyed the variety on the course and the very international flavour of it. As I studied part-time I had different experiences in each year, but my 2nd year was a particular highlight due to good friends I met on the course.
What would you say to students thinking about studying the same course at Leeds/thinking about the same career?
It's a really good course, and pretty varied. Totally doable as a part-time for mature students, and an interesting and varied set of modules. Due to the competitive nature of this sector, If you want to find a job in the industry, you will need to gain or have some experience in this area already too. I would definitely do the course again and considered continuing for a PhD.
