Access to Leeds

Farhan had heard about the Access to Leeds programme through his friends, and also had the opportunity offered to him. He decided to take up the programme because he felt that it would be beneficial to do it and also to gain insight on how the University of Leeds orchestrates learning.

“I can't describe how helpful Access to Leeds was to me. It gave me a more comprehensive view of what Leeds had to offer. During the weeks of learning, the academics integrated many ways to help me improve my study skills and confidence in specific topics that were crucial for my course. They even went as far as to explain how I should effectively reference for future essays.

I can't describe how helpful Access to Leeds was to me. It gave me a more comprehensive view of what Leeds had to offer.

At the time, I was taking EPQ (Extended Project) alongside my A-Levels. Access to Leeds (A2L) helped further formulate my understanding of how to write scientific papers immensely. Without experiencing A2L, I would have felt more uncomfortable because the students who came to give crucial tips and tricks made my life in University effortless. Having people who were also doing the course alongside me made me a lot more confident to try new things. From the guidance to quick replies to any query to the interactive Q&A's I could not have asked for more!”

Undergraduate life at Leeds

Following on from undertaking the Acces to Leeds programme, Farnhan continued his studies at Leeds and is currently pursuing a MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. “Studying at the University of Leeds has and will continue to give me the delightful atmosphere of what students in my generation need. With an outstanding teaching and irrefutable support, I chose Leeds because it’s a place where I can develop with the inspirational peers I have alongside me.”

“Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the core builders of society that has nurtured us into the twenty-first century. However, what I love most about engineering is how it changed the world by amalgamating mathematics with other branches of the sciences. The idea to integrate our knowledge in developing new designs and ideas makes me keen for the future. The main reason why I chose this course is because of the exceptional practicalities that come with it. These experiences make me excited for the future because of the potential of being a part of the forefront of changing the way we use electricity and our electronic devices. I want to help solve the social, political, and economic issues in our world to mitigate significant problems such as global warming.

One of the crucial beneficial aspects of studying at Leeds is how I improved my way of life. I have improved by being more confident, independent, and thoughtful. I have met countless inspiring individuals who have influenced me to become a better student. Every lecture has overflowed with passion from professors' aspects like these are what I think propel me to learn and achieve more! Exceedingly impenetrable topics in modules have shown me ways to improve my skills and attributes.”

“Nobody can go back and start from the beginning. So, I need to continue to strive to do things out of my comfort zone to grow further. I want to solve the social, political, and economic issues in our world. But I cannot expect to help solve such a momentous task without the experience to fortify my aspirations and goals.  I want to make my family proud as a gift for their hard work raising me.

The course will implore you to work diligently but it has given me the push I needed to be more ambitious and confident in myself. The aspect of learning with like-minded individuals will also help you be in an academic mindset to grow and become better. But some quick tips from me would be to think ahead and be ahead. Once the course starts, be sharp and ready to explore in-depth and ask dynamic questions. The professors in this school are delightful and sincerely passionate.”
