Alongside lectures, Purvi developed her practical skills in lab workshops. She said: “The teaching and lab facilities at the University of Leeds are exceptional. The lecturers are highly knowledgeable and bring a wealth of industry experience to their teaching, which enhances the learning experience.” 

“The labs are fitted out with the latest technology and equipment, providing hands-on experience that is crucial for understanding complex chemical engineering concepts. The support staff are also very helpful, ensuring that students can make the most of the facilities available.”

Student life in Leeds

Purvi enjoyed living in Leeds and joining student societies. She said: “Student life in Leeds is vibrant and diverse. The city offers a rich cultural experience with numerous museums, galleries, and theaters. The university has a wide range of societies and clubs catering to various interests, from academic and professional societies to sports and hobby clubs.”

“Events are held regularly, providing opportunities for socializing and networking. The student union is very active, ensuring there’s always something happening on campus.” 

“Especially being an Indian student, I really enjoyed the fact that there were Bollywood parties happening every other weekend. And exploring the different events really helped me understand the culture and food of people from all over the world.”

Developing innovative solutions

Purvi had the opportunity to study a wide range of modules and conduct research projects. She said: “One of the projects that I have really enjoyed is my dissertation. It covers all aspects of academia, from learning to research to practical knowledge and experience.”

“Another fascinating topic was an optimisation assessment that brushed up my skills and helped me gain knowledge. These projects allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions.”

Career plans

The employability team organise career fairs, workshops, and networking events that provide opportunities to connect with potential employers. Purvi added: “My future career plans involve working in the field of chemical processes, aiming to contribute to the development of technologies in the chemical industry.
