Healthcare Mechatronics

Overview

Postgraduate researcher in surgical technologies

The Healthcare Mechatronics Lab develops mechatronics and robotics technologies and applies these to address modern challenges in healthcare, harnessing the multidisciplinary research environment at Leeds. Our research focuses first on developing engineering advances in three main areas; Sensing Technology, Soft Robotics/Systems and Medical Devices. We work closely with healthcare professionals to apply these specialisms to address challenges in areas including minimally invasive surgery, cardiac assistance, orthotics, global health and incontinence.

Our Healthcare Mechatronics group is the result of a long-established collaboration between the School of Mechanical Engineering and Leeds Institute of Medical Research. Our research is truly multidisciplinary, bringing leading engineering expertise with world-class medical research infrastructure at Leeds NHS Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT). We benefit from this strong partnership and work closely with healthcare professionals from Leeds and beyond.

Our group consists of research academics, post-doctoral researchers, PhD students and a vibrant mix of undergraduate and internship students on research placements. We collaborate with researchers across Leeds, the UK and internationally, and always welcome new links. In addition, we work closely with allied groups including
