Research project
Geothermal Corrosion Inhibitor Development
- Start date: 1 December 2020
- End date: 1 December 2023
- Funder: UKRI
- Value: £350,000
- Partners and collaborators: Roemex
- Primary investigator: Professor Richard Barker
Dr Marco Castillo has been appointed in the role of KTP Associate for a collaborative partnership between the Institute for Functional Surfaces in the School of Mechanical Engineering and Roemex Limited, Aberdeenshire. Roemex, an SME based in Portlethen, develop and sell speciality chemicals for a variety of uses in Oil & Gas exploration and production.
Strategically they wish to continue to expand their product portfolio to include chemicals specifically developed to minimise corrosion in the emerging geothermal market.
The principal focus of the project is to develop an understanding of the complex corrosion mechanisms occurring in the geothermal environments and to use this knowledge to develop specific chemistries that will inhibit the corrosion of field assets.
