I’ve always enjoyed maths and physics, and wanted a career in which I could apply these subjects practically. The engineering industry is dynamic and diverse; every day brings a fresh challenge, requiring innovation and offering the chance to learn something new. I am fascinated by the complexity of modern aircraft, so Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering offered everything I wanted to gain from my degree.
Alongside teaching technical theory, the course develops skills which are fundamental for students wishing to pursue a career in industry or academia. Time management, practical engineering and presentation skills are all developed throughout the course, preparing students for their future careers.
The University of Leeds is a fantastic place to study, and offers something for everyone. It is ideally placed, close to the vibrant, cultural and exciting centre of Leeds, but with good transport links to the stunning countryside of the Yorkshire Dales.
After graduating in 2011 I gained a place on Airbus in the UK’s Direct Entry Graduate scheme, based in the Flight Physics department at Bristol. The scheme comprises a series of placements throughout Airbus; over two years, DEGs gain invaluable insight into the company structure whilst learning vital technical and managerial skills.
