Why did you choose to study the Advanced Concrete Technology MSc?

After working in the construction industry for a number of years I decided to undertake the MSc to provide a recognition of competency in understanding the various aspects of concrete technology.

What has been the best aspect of studying this course and why?

The course has provided me with an in-depth understanding of the many aspects of concrete technology. As well as covering the basic aspects of concrete, the course also focused on emerging technologies. I have enjoyed studying and researching these emerging materials and technologies.

What projects are involved in outside of the course?

I have been involved with the Irish Concrete Society for a number of years. I currently lecture and assist in workshops in the Fundamentals of Concrete Technology and I am an approved trainer for the Society for the Concrete Ticket Course.

Tell us about your ideas for your research project.

My intentions are to study the sequestration of carbon dioxide (carbonation) of cementitious concrete blocks.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

The course requires commitment and particularly for participants with busy careers it can often be difficult to commit the time required to participate with the course work, however the knowledge gained and contacts made make the course very rewarding.
