Ruth is Director of the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Mechanical Engineering. She joined the School’s academic staff as a lecturer in 2005, having been awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Post-doctoral Fellowship in 2002. She has gone on to hold major grants from the EPSRC (including a Programme Grant, Healthcare Impact Partnership, Challenging Engineering Award and follow-on grant) and European Research Council.
Ruth is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Panel for Biomedical Engineering, whose remit includes the provision of advice to government, health authorities and the medical research community. She received an MRC Suffrage Science award for leading women in Science Engineering and Technology in 2015.
Ruth is Director of the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. Her research interests include development and evaluation of medical devices and interventions for the musculoskeletal system, including the hip, knee, spine and ankle.

I have taught on masters and undergraduate mechanical and medical engineering programmes. I currently teach aspects of a module on finite element methods of analysis.
