University of Leeds hosts Director General of the Institution of Civil Engineers
In June, the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds hosted the Director General from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
In June, the School of Civil Engineering proudly hosted colleagues from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), showcasing our commitment to nurturing the next generation of civil engineers through our strategic partnerships and innovative educational initiatives.
Visiting from ICE were Dr Janet Young, ICE Director General and Secretary, and Elena Rinaldi, ICE Academic Partnerships Manager. They were accompanied by Steena Nasapen-Watson, ICE Yorkshire and Humber Regional Director, and Jess McCamley, Communications Lead. The visit was a significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration aimed at promoting civil engineering among young people and supporting them in their journey to becoming ICE chartered civil engineers.
During the visit, the ICE representatives met with several key figures from our university, including Professor Vasilis Sarhosis, David Richardson, and Professor Carlo Prato. These meetings provided an opportunity to showcase the university’s cutting-edge research, innovative teaching methods, and the robust support systems in place for our civil engineering students.
One of the highlights of the visit was a presentation by Josie Davies, an ICE student representative, who shared her enriching experience during her year in industry placement with AtkinsRéalis. Josie's testimony highlighted the invaluable role that the University of Leeds has played in her professional development and her journey to discovering a passion for environmental engineering.
The visit also included insightful discussions on how the University of Leeds is working to inspire the next generation of civil engineers. Our guests were impressed by our School's dedication to fostering a supportive and stimulating environment for students and the proactive steps we are taking to integrate industry placements and practical experiences into our curriculum.
