Kenny Ajose
- Course: Financial Mathematics BSc
- Year of graduation: 2019
Kenny Ajose studied Financial Mathematics BSc and visited both South Korea and Arizona throught the study aborad programme.
Since Graduating
“I went travelling around Europe, partying and really living life! I then worked as a dishwasher for a few months before returning to my travels. Once COVID hit, I started to think more about my career and staring working in a mental health hospital from 2020 onwards.
Seeing the work of nurses and doctors inspired me to apply for Graduate Entry Medicine, and so I did, and got accepted into Warwick University. I have just passed my first year out of four and I couldn’t be happier!
My goal is to become a Plastic Surgeon that specialises in Gender Confirming Surgery. However, I am open minded and that may change. The overall (cheesy) goal is to help a minority group of people!”
Why Leeds?
“University of Leeds was the only university that had the exact course I wanted AND gave me the opportunity to study abroad in the states. The student experience is legendary and cannot be competed with.”
Best aspect
“Without a doubt, my two study abroad opportunities. Both South Korea and Arizona were life changing events that I still talk about today. I will never forget them, and it was only possible through the University of Leeds. I learnt a lot about myself during my solo travels.
Experiences at Leeds
“I had an absolutely cracking personal tutor that really helped me throughout university. He was the person that convinced me not to drop out when I was struggling during my third year, and I will always be grateful for that. Through this, I learnt that talking with the right people can be game changing.
I didn’t realise at the time, but studying things that were imaginary or weren’t tangible such as Number & Vectors, and Time Series really helped widen the way I thought about things.
I didn’t realise at the time, but studying things that were imaginary or weren’t tangible such as Number & Vectors, and Time Series really helped widen the way I thought about things. It’s also a super useful transferable skill that I use every day, and is especially useful when studying and practising medicine, as some things are still concepts that require an open to grasp.”
Outside of studying
“During my first year, I was elected the Wellbeing Coordinator and helped put on events within my halls. I put on a wonderful event and provided breakfast to the students for a week and as a result, I won the “Contribution to Student Wellbeing Award” In 2016.
I also baked 1000s of muffins during my time at university and handed these out to residents, taking the opportunity to introduce myself. These muffins not only earned me the title “muffin man”, but also helped me win the “Exceptional Subwarden of the Year award” in 2017.
The rave scene was something that certainly ate a lot of my downtime and helped find my love for all types of Disco, Techno, Funk and House music!”
Advice to students
“Mathematics with Finance, now called Financial Mathematics, is a top tier course that will without a doubt stretch how you think and mould you into a person capable of thinking in complex and open ways.”
