Dr Andrew Scott

I am interested in the relationship between the structure and properties of materials. How can we understand existing materials and use that knowledge to develop new materials to meet the challenges of the 21st Century such as energy, biomaterials, transport and construction.

Following a degree in chemistry, my career began with the oil company, BP, developing and characterising novel energy efficient catalysts and green solar power materials. My PhD and current research combine atomic scale theory and experimental characterisation to understand and predict materials properties covering a wide range of materials such as pharmaceuticals, biomaterials and metallic alloys.

Leeds has a long and successful history in Materials teaching and research, originally being focussed on metallurgy and ceramics but now being truly interdisciplinary, with strong links to chemistry, physics and biology. This MSc will give you core Materials Science knowledge with the flexibility to choose modules within our pathways to enable you to focus on an area of particular interest.
