Postdoctoral Research Fellow awarded a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship
Dr Geeta Sharma, School of Chemical and Process Engineering, has been awarded a prestigious Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship.
The Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) are the European Union’s reference programme for doctoral education and postdoctoral training. The MSCA fund excellent research and innovation, and equip researchers at all stages of their career with new knowledge and skills, through mobility across borders and exposure to different sectors and disciplines. The MSCA help build Europe's capacity for research and innovation by investing in the long-term careers of excellent researchers.
The abstract for Geeta's proposed work which was accepted for the Fellowship read: The technology has evolved drastically over various stages of industrial revolution from usage of coal, steam and water to current stage chip technology, artificial intelligence and big data which relies on lots of data transfer. With data as new oil, data centres will need large storage capacities which in turn increases power consumption of ICT sector. The energy demand in ICT sector implies that global carbon footprint for increasing the capacity of digital infrastructure may become unsustainable at a current rate in future! Hence the present proposal aims to develop a novel single platform technology using on-chip energy harvesting of heat dissipated by electronic and photonic chips during their operation.
On receiving the Fellowship, Geeta said "I would like to thank the School for providing me support in applying for the fellowship. A special note of thanks to Prof Animesh Jha for his constant support and mentorship. It's been a real pleasure to learn and work in SCAPE with you all and I would seek your guidance in future as well."
