Student success at the West Yorkshire Society of Architects prize-giving event

Congratulations to all of the Architecture students who took part and received awards at the West Yorkshire Society of Architects prize-giving event this year.

University of Leeds Architecture students have demonstrated their commitment to excellence by winning prestigious awards at the West Yorkshire Society of Architects (WYSA) prize-giving event, held on October 19th, 2023. The event, which took place in the C18th Leeds Library, was attended by a good number of University of Leeds students as well as many others.

Two awards were celebrated, the Denis Mason-Jones Sketching Prize and the Bedford Travel Scholarship. The sketching prize is awarded to recognise outstanding sketching and has an annual fund of £2,000. It is open to Architecture students and practitioners working in Yorkshire. Two University of Leeds Architecture students received £100 each - Freya Pollitt (third-year student) and Thomas Hannay (fourth-year student) for being commended entries for the Denis Mason-Jones Sketching Prize.

In addition, Elizabeth Jackson, who graduated from MEBE Architecture in the summer, was awarded the Bedford Travel Scholarship, an annual award of up to £2,000 given to a Yorkshire-based Architecture student to enable a travel experience in support of personal architectural growth. Elizabeth gave an excellent and informative report on her visit to the World Congress of Architecture 2023 in Copenhagen. She is now working for HLM Architects in Sheffield.

The University of Leeds is proud of its students' achievements and congratulates them on their success. These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and highlight the quality of education they receive at the University of Leeds.
