IET award for Leeds terahertz team

Researchers from the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering have won the Electronic Letters Premium Award at the IET Premium Awards 2015.

Dr Lianhe LiDr Li ChenDr Joshua FreemanDr Paul DeanDr Alexander Valavanis, Ms Jingxuan Zhu, Professor Giles Davies and Professor Edmund Linfield were given the award for their paper 'Terahertz quantum cascade lasers with >1W output powers'. The paper is associated with the high power THz laser that the team built in 2014, which is the world's most powerful THz laser chip, more than doubling the previous record.

The IET Premium Awards are given to the authors of the best papers published within the last two years in each of the IET’s journals.

Professor Giles Davies, part of the team, said "We are delighted that the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s internationally renowned peer-review electronic science and engineering journal has recognized our work in this way, and is testament to the outstanding capability and infrastructure in this field at Leeds."
