What will I learn?
A range of presentations, discussions, forums and practical hands-on sessions illustrating the principles of pharmaceutical medical gas testing will ensure that on completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
demonstrate a knowledge of relevant gases, HTM 02-01 and other guidance.
show a knowledge of medical gases distribution
demonstrate a knowledge of health and safety relating to medical gases
make critical assessment on health and safety issues such as OES, MEL and STEL
identify and resolve problems associated with medical gas systems
interpret test results of medical gas systems and take appropriate actions
identify and resolve any problems associated with testing equipment
document relevant activities and interventions.
How will I benefit?
This two-day refresher and reassessment programme is specifically designed for you if you’re required to take the formal assessment of competency required under HTM02 every five years. The aim is to give an opportunity for QC (MGPS) personnel to be aware of developments and best practice and to enhance personal skills.

Updates (alerts and guidance documents) and incidents to learn from
Introduction and explanation of workshops
Workshops: advanced skills in: Understanding medical gases issues with anaesthetic trolleys; coping with common problems that occur with equipment; management of an oxygen line shutdown; contaminant analysis; connectology and testing through hoses – limitations and safety.
Introduction to the assessment
Commissioning medical gas supplies to the hospital – focussing on a new VIE, Med Air Plant, manifold system and main pipelines/ring main
Roles and competencies of AP’s – what a QC (MGPS) needs to know
Medical gas training and competency, promoting best practice, reducing risk – improving efficiency
Company product equipment display (and networking lunch)
QC (MGPS): Health and safety in practice
Question and answer session followed by assessment feedback
Competency will be evaluated by informal observation of practical skills and a written exam at the end of the course. Please note, the reassessment process is of the delegates general knowledge of Medical Gas Testing, not necessarily of the knowledge gained during this short course. This is to assure ongoing competence of those retained on the QC(MGPS) register under HTM 02-01.
Who should attend?
This course will be suitable for pharmacists and other health professionals with experience and responsibilities for, or an interest in, medical gas testing. This course is of particular importance to those who require the formal assessment of competency under the HTM02 every five years. The aim is to give an opportunity for QC (MPGS) personnel to be aware of developments and best practice.
