Leeds researcher receives prestigious Laura Bassi Editorial Scholarship
A doctoral researcher from the University of Leeds has been awarded the esteemed Laura Bassi Scholarship for Editorial Assistance.
Roaksana Firdaus Nigar, a fourth-year PhD student and member of the Architecture and Urbanism Research Group, has been selected for the Laura Bassi Scholarship for editorial assistance to support her PhD project.
The scholarship will assist her in refining her academic writing, strengthening the clarity and impact of her research, and enhancing the overall quality of her scholarly outputs. The award also underlines her dedication to rigorous academic excellence and contributes significantly to the development of her forthcoming publications.
The Laura Bassi Scholarship was founded in 2018 to support postgraduates and early career academics with editorial assistance for research on neglected topics within their fields, broadly interpreted. It is an international honour awarded to scholars conducting innovative and meaningful research.
Roaksana sees the award as a significant milestone that enhances her academic journey, and something that will offers her valuable opportunities to strengthen her research communication skills and expand her professional network within international academic circles.
She said: “I’m deeply grateful for the recognition and support offered through the Laura Bassi Editorial Scholarship. It enables me to refine my academic writing, engage more confidently with global scholarship, and broaden my understanding across a diverse landscape of knowledge.
“I believe this experience will play a significant role in shaping my growth as a researcher and guiding my future academic career.”
Roaksana will offer an interdisciplinary perspective from her PhD research in architecture and urbanism, where she investigates informal spatial adaptation and community-led conservation practices at Mughal-era heritage sites in Old Dhaka, Bangladesh.
