Physics at Leeds reaches UK top 15 in two major university guides
Physics at Leeds has climbed into the UK top 15 in two national university guides, reaching 13th in the Guardian and 12th in the Times and Sunday Times.
The Guardian table recorded 92.1% student satisfaction with teaching and 85.8% satisfaction with feedback, placing the School of Physics and Astronomy at Leeds joint eighth in the UK for feedback. The School has focused on responding to students’ views and improving teaching satisfaction, alongside work to strengthen students’ sense of belonging.
Leeds also received a student-experience score of 89.3 in the Times and the Sunday Times guide, placing it seventh among the universities included in the Physics and Astronomy subject table.
The Guardian recorded a career-prospects score of 87% for Physics at Leeds 15 months after graduation. The School’s overall position also places it ninth among other Russell Group universities represented in the table. This is in addition to its recent graduate outcomes, where 83% of graduates reported being in highly skilled employment a year after leaving the University.
The results follow several years of improvement, including the development and introduction of a new undergraduate curriculum. Its competency-based and synoptic assessment approaches are designed to help students connect different areas of physics and demonstrate their learning across the programme.

The subject results place Physics and Astronomy above the University’s overall position in both guides. Leeds is ranked 26th overall by the Guardian and 22nd by the Times and the Sunday Times.
