Undergraduate of the Year Awards 2019 winners in Engineering and Physical Sciences

Six finalists from the University of Leeds attended the Undergraduate of the Year Awards 2019, last Friday.

Chevonne Fernandes, BSc Physics, was awarded the Undergraduate of the Year award for Innovation 2019 and Benedek Dalglish, MEng Mechanical Engineering, was crowned New Energy Solutions Undergraduate of the Year 2019 during the awards ceremony last week.

The two winners were joined by fellow University of Leeds finalists, Alfred Ruff and Gemma Cselko, from the Faculty of Engineering, Abigail Dore from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Andreas Seraphim from Leeds University Business School

Benedek said: “It was really amazing to have won the award, I was incredibly honoured to be named among a list of impressive people who had achieved so much! It was a wonderful day seeing the people I had done the assessment centre with again, and the event felt very prestigious which was awesome to be a part of.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity, honestly it felt like a day for opening doors towards my future life. I would highly recommend applying toward this, the process with E.ON was an excellent experience to have been involved in, even had I not have been successful.”

Chevonne said: “I am proud to hold the Undergraduate of the Year Award for Innovation and looking back on my experiences, I am even more grateful that I took the time to be part of such a positive appreciation of talent.
