Physical Sciences Employability Team shortlisted for national award
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences Employability Team have been shortlisted in the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards 2017 for ‘Most Improved Commitment to Employability’.
The Awards strive to be inclusive and represent the widening pool of work experience opportunities available to students in today’s competitive market.
The ‘Most Improved Commitment to Employability’ category celebrates continuous improvement to services for students to ensure we give them access to the best resources and opportunities. The category, which is sponsored by SAP, will bring together those passionate about the industry to score and assess the nominations and pick the deserving winners.
Emily Timson, Employability Business Development Manager for the Faculty of Engineering & Mathematics and Physical Sciences said: ‘In 2016 The Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences established an Employability Team to develop a tailored and unique service to students studying within faculty. We’re in the second academic year of delivering embedded employability lectures across all undergraduate programmes, as well as providing comprehensive support to all students via workshops, daily appointments and careers modules. This year the universities first ever STEM careers fair took place, attracting thousands of students and we also launched our Employability Internship Scheme. Whilst there is a long way to go as we develop and enhance the employability service, we’re just at the start of our journey, and we’ve got very some ambitious plans – so it is wonderful to be acknowledged by the NUE Awards at this early stage of our growth, and we hope we can continue to offer a service which seeks to enhance and support our students employability prospects'.
The Awards, being the only Awards of its kind in the undergraduate market, has the support of some of the industry leading bodies including AGR, ASET, PlaceNet and AGCAS. The final results will be announced at the NUE Awards Ceremony in London on Friday 23rd February.
