Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I chose to study at Leeds because I love the city and had an amazing day on my open day. I loved the campus and how everything is contained without having to ever leave the Uni - making it feel very safe. Not to mention the wide range of libraries, cafes and food places on site.

Why did you choose this particular course?

I chose Physics because I loved it at A-Level and wanted to continue! I loved the course at Leeds as you have the ability to tailor the course to your preferences and pick modules that you're interested in alongside core modules. I was also attracted to the large number of astronomy modules you can take even if you're not doing Physics with Astrophysics.

What have been the best aspects of studying your course, and why?

Personally, I have loved the research side of the degree. The many hours spent in well-equipped labs have given me a broad insight into every field of research and helped me understand numerous concepts throughout the course. I have particularly enjoyed my final year project, being able to work in labs independently on my project according to my timetable.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed on your course?

The project I have enjoyed the most would be my Masters project. I have spent the year in the soft matter research department, determining methods to recycle polycotton fabrics into polyester and cotton to be used for creating mosquito nets to prevent malaria. I have also had the opportunity to work on several computing projects, including having a go on a supercomputer.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds has everything you would want in a city whilst being small enough for you to not need a car. Trinity is amazing and Leeds has every shop you could ever want! There's also a massive range of nights out from clubs to bars, there is everything you could possibly ever want! Not to mention, Leeds is just a train ride away from the beautiful city of York or Ilkley Moor for a walk if you fancy a day trip.

What are your ambitions for the future?

My ambitions for the future are to continue in Academia. I hope to start my PhD in Leeds next year as I love it here so much.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

At Leeds my course has given me all the skills and more you would expect from a Physics degree. In addition, the large range of people from different backgrounds I have met have impacted on my time here and taught me a lot that I didn't know. I'd say that the experience that will help me the most is being President of the Physics society as it has given me the ability to lead and organise a team.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

Work hard and enjoy it! And don't worry too much about Quantum!
