Leeds named best in UK for electrical and electronic engineering
One of the UK’s leading university guides has named the University of Leeds as the best place to study electrical and electronic engineering.
The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, which has consistently been recognised for its cutting-edge and diverse range of programmes and research areas, was recognised as the best of its kind in the country by the Guardian’s University Guide for 2025.
The guide specifically highlighted the career opportunities that electrical and electronic engineering Leeds students received, establishing the University as among the best institutions to develop a role in industries such as renewable energy, quantum technologies, robotics, medical electronics, and wireless communications. According to the Guardian, 98% of those who complete a course within the School are in graduate-level jobs, or further study at professional or higher education levels, within 15 months of graduation.
The Guardian University Guide, which ranks UK universities based on criteria including student satisfaction, teaching quality, employability, and research, also explores broader criteria that are important to modern learning, including the increasing role of digital support, and the evolving importance of factors like inclusivity, sustainability, and student feedback in determining rankings.
While the Guardian’s guide can help students compare universities, it specifically encourages prospective undergraduates to look beyond this top-level ranking and consider course content, teaching methods, and university culture.
