Research interests

Tim's core research develops integrated models of energy systems and technologies, and then uses those models to inform both technology development and policy decisions. A key innovation of the work is using rigorous engineering analysis to inform energy policy decision making - and equally using questions in energy policy to frame energy engineering problem development. Tim is an engineer by background, but recognising the complex interdisciplinary nature of most energy problems, has reached out to methodologies from social science, economics and policy analysis.

Tim works across a range of energy technologies and systems, though most projects have focused on wind, carbon capture and storage, or energy storage. He also has an enthusiasm for interdisciplinary energy teaching.
