Architecture degrees at Leeds
For our aspiring architects, we offer a full portfolio of architecture and architectural engineering courses to suit your career path – most of which are professionally accredited.
Which architecture degree is right for you?
Each course provides a range of qualifications tailored to your individual graduate aspirations – but all are based on the same core of learning and experience. Our modules are interlinked across five years and largely shared by students on architectural programmes, with different options and exit points.
All our undergraduate degrees are also engineering qualifications – as well as architecture – giving you a broader skillset when you graduate.
Most of our architecture degrees are accredited but please check individual courses for accreditation details.
MArch, MEng Architecture
Programme length: 5 years
This 5-year programme provides professionally accredited qualifications to Masters level in three disciplines: architecture, structural engineering and building services engineering. Graduates have completed all academic requirements for all these disciplines and can join any related professional body subject to completing appropriate working experience and professional gateways. As well as having unrivalled expertise across the construction sector at graduation, you have flexibility into the future as your career develops.
MEng, BEng Architecture
Programme length: 4 years
This 4-year programme is also accredited to Masters level for civil & structural and building services engineering and is Validated to Part 1 by RIBA. Further learning is required in order to qualify for entry to the Register of British Architects. Validation means that the course is a recognised precursor to Master of architecture (MArch) programmes offered by other providers, allowing you to complete your architectural education route elsewhere if desired. Graduates following an engineering path need no further academic learning.
MEng, BEng Architectural Engineering
Programme length: 4 years
This 4-year programme is accredited to Masters level for civil & structural and building services engineering. Graduates have completed all academic requirements for these disciplines and can join any related professional body subject to completing appropriate working experience and professional gateways.
BEng Architectural Engineering
Programme length: 3 years
This 3-year programme is accredited for civil & structural and building services engineering to partial CEng level. Further learning, typically through an engineering MSc, is required to complete academic elements needed to qualify for chartered professional memberships.
MArch Architecture
Programme length: 2 years
This 2-year Masters programme is accredited by the Architects Registration Board to Masters level, providing all the academic requirements to enable graduates to progress through work experience and the professional gateway to join the register of British Architects. Students joining the course will typically have graduated from an undergraduate architecture programme as validated by RIBA or equivalent, from the UK or from overseas. Changes to ARB rules now mean that a UK-accredited undergraduate architecture degree is no longer required for progression towards Registration, although the School will decide on a case-by-case basis for admission to the MArch. Learning modules are mostly the same as for the last 2 years of the MArch, MEng programme, but with simplified technical elements to reflect the single accreditation.
MSc Architecture Design
Programme length: 1 year
As part of our architecture Masters courses, we also offer an architecture design MSc that trains you as a sustainable designer of future cities and urban environments. It's an interdisciplinary course that encourages critical debate and experimental practice to equip you with those holistic skills you'll need to become a creative designer in industry.
