Dr Dominic Jones

Profile

Dr. Dominic Jones received his MEng degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2015 from Leeds University. He subsequently completed a PhD in 2019 from the Healthcare Mechatronics Group at Leeds University, focusing on developing low-cost tactile sensing for laparoscopic instruments. Following this, he continued as a Postdoctoral Researcher, developing wearable, tactile sensors in orthotic devices for assessing and predicting disease progression, using force interactions with the skin to infer biomechanical responses. In 2021, he joined the STORM Lab at Leeds, focusing on robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery, automating intra-abdominal scanning and augmenting tolls to provide additional sensing. In 2023, he was appointed as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Medical Robotics at Leeds. His research focus is on introducing additional perception to provide assistive autonomy and augment surgeon dexterity in minimally invasive surgical robotics, and assessment of learning methods in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
