How to become Chemistry’s nomination for the UKRI STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship
The School of Chemistry is calling on researchers to apply for its nomination for the UKRI STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship.
This year, the School is eligible to host an STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship, and is allowed to submit one application.
To qualify for the position:
- You must be an early career researcher;
- You must not hold a tenured academic post or academic position at lecturer level;
- Your application must be hosted and supported by an eligible UK research organisation with a STFC ERF quota; and
- You must hold a PhD or have relevant experience and clear leadership potential.
The UKRI Funding Service will fund your proposal at 80% of its full economic cost, while the University of Leeds will fund the rest. The fellowship lasts up to five years.
The application should consist of an anonymised research proposal or summary – limited to one page – and a separate short CV. Those who want to put their name forward should submit their application to Professor Steve Marsden (S.P.Marsden@leeds.ac.uk), who can also provide any additional information about the application process. The closing date for submissions is 30 June 2023.
All applications will then be shortlisted by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- The excellence of the science;
- The fit to the STFC’s remit, portfolios, and priorities, which can be found here at the UKRI website;
- The complementarity to local expertise and strategy; and
- Ability to deliver.
The School of Chemistry is welcome to submissions from people who require flexible working arrangements.
The applicant selected to be the School of Chemistry’s nomination will be notified after the panel meeting and given full support with the preparation of their full application to the STFC, which must be submitted by 4:00pm on 21 September 2023.
