Leeds professor wins Distinguished Service Award for increasing impact of prestigious electronics journal

Professor Steve Freear, who has improved success of a high-profile electronics journal, has been rewarded for halving its manuscript processing time and production costs.

Professor Freear, from the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, was recognised for his contribution to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) journal Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control.

He has been commended by the IEEE, with their Distinguished Service Award, for his accomplishments as Editor-in-Chief which include halving the time it takes to process and publish individual manuscripts. This resulted in an 80% increase in the publication’s impact factor, which is a measure of how many times a journal has been cited each year.

The publication is received by members of the IEEE Ultrasonic, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society.

IEEE and its global community innovates the electronics sector through inspiring publications, conferences, technology standards, and activities.
