Students awarded Electronics Skills Foundation Scholarships
Undergraduates from Electronic and Electrical Engineering have been awarded UK Electronics Skills Foundation Scholarships which will see them working with leading employers in the electronics sector.
Philip Wilkinson, Harry Clegg and Isabel Cousins will be sponsored by three different companies and carry out paid summer work placements, in addition to receiving company mentoring and an annual bursary for each year of their degree.
Philip has been offered a scholarship working with Leonardo, one of the largest investors in the UK defence sector. He will spend two summers at their Edinburgh branch. Harry’s scholarship is sponsored by global technology leader Imagination Technologies and Isabel will work with engineering company Frazer-Nash.
In addition, the students will also attend the UK Electronics Skills Foundation Scholarships (UKESF) Scholar Workshop, a 4-day residential course packed with professional and personal development sessions and networking.
Commenting on his scholarship, Philip Wilkinson said: "I'm very honoured to have been awarded this scholarship and hope to make the best of the learning opportunities it provides. I applied knowing the experience gained would be beneficial in getting into the industry after finishing my degree and would also further my own studies by relating what I have learnt in university into a practical engineering environment."
Undergraduate Admissions Tutor Des McLernon said: “These scholarships are invaluable to a talented and ambitious electronic engineering undergraduate. While the financial aspects are of course well received, the industrial placement, along with a company mentor, will transform the student's understanding of the link between theory and practice. Finally, not only is the student's CV now greatly enhanced but he/she will mature in both outlook and experience.”

They ensure school children are aware of Electronics and the opportunities available, helping them to develop their interest through to university study. At university, we support undergraduates and prepare them for the workplace.
