ISO Accreditation for iMBE

The Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering has achieved ISO 9001 accreditation for its quality management system.

ISO 9001 is by far the world’s most established quality framework, currently being used by 1,064,000 organisations in 178 countries worldwide, and sets the standard not only for quality management systems, but management systems in general.

The accreditation covers all of iMBE’s laboratories based in the School of Mechanical Engineering, which includes the UK’s National Centre for Biotribology: the largest biotribology simulation facility in the world. Here the researchers perform pre-clinical testing of artificial joint replacements, as well as develop regenerative technologies to improve quality of life.

“With our ISO 9001 accreditation we adopt a customer-focused approach to all our research project activities - with industry-standard highly professional approaches to planning, confidentiality and delivery to schedule” said Dr Louise Jennings, Principal Research & Innovation Fellow in iMBE.

Working in an ISO 9001 accredited environment is also beneficial training and experience for the researchers, who will go on to work in other ISO 9001 accredited companies and organisations.

“Industry customers can collaborate with us with confidence knowing that they are working with a highly professional research facility committed to quality”.
