New Designers exhibition 2013

Product Design students enjoyed their best ever design exhibition in London this week.

This is the 6th year we have exhibited at New Designers 2013 and the design work and prototypes created by this year’s students created a real buzz on our stand attracting the largest number of  visitors we have ever seen.

The show was attended by designers from manufactures, the creative industries and even government.  Representatives from leading design consultancies and from world class companies like, Nike, Gillette and Dyson visited the stand to talk to our students with one of our students receiving a job offer on the first day of opening.

Our MDes students presented designs such as 'Steam Punk', a growing design trend which fuses retro and futuristic styles to make highly desirable and surprising products.  A Kettle based on a zeppelin, a Blender using styling from steam trains, a wooden electric Knife and a coffee maker using copper pipes all caught the eyes of visitors, many keen to know when they will be available to buy!  Our BDes students presented their yearlong design projects, many of which solved very challenging problems.

Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Dan Jarvis visited the stand to see for himself the emerging design talent in the UK and discussed Fred Howe's design work to tackle street crime.  Fred explained how his product worn on the wrist could reduce street crime using 'Smart Water.  The show runs until the 6th July 2013 at the Business Design Centre London.
