Student satisfaction rises

The Faculty of Engineering has seen a rise in student satisfaction in this year’s National Student Survey. All of our engineering schools received high scores for overall satisfaction.

The School of Mechanical Engineering is ranked number 1 for student satisfaction in the Russell Group after scoring an impressive 97% overall student satisfaction, as well as continuing to receive high scores across all categories including; teaching on the course, learning resources and personal development. Our Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering programme taught within the School, continues to be rated highest in the Russell Group with 93% overall student satisfaction.

The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering has seen an increase in student satisfaction across all of the categories and has an overall score of 93% confirming it's position as 3rd out of the Russell Group Universities for electronic and electrical engineering.

The School of Computing continues to increase it's scores this year with 87% overall student satisfaction. Personal development within the school saw the biggest rise in satisfaction.

The School of Civil Engineering scored 94% overall student satisfaction also excelling in the area of personal development. The School is ranked 2nd out of the Russell Group Universities.

The School Chemical and Process Engineering scored 94% overall student satisfaction and impressive scores across all categories. The School is now ranked 3rd out of the Russell Group Universities.

The Faculty's rise in student satisfaction, also coincides with the University’s impressive score of 88% of our final year students saying they are satisfied with the quality of their course at Leeds. The results also saw us improve our position within the 24 Russell Group institutions and we are now ranked joint 11th with Nottingham, up from 16th place last year. 

The result puts Leeds’ 2% above the sector average score of 86%. We improved our scores by 1% across the board in all but one of the six question categories, and maintained our score of 71% for Assessment and Feedback. Satisfaction with our students’ union increased by 1% this year to give a score of 91%, well above the sector average of 68%.

About the NSS
The NSS is a national survey taken by final year undergraduate students at all publicly funded Higher Education Institutions, to provide honest feedback on what it has been like to study their course at their institution.

Questions are asked on subjects including the teaching on the course, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and overall satisfaction.
