Civil Engineering celebrates REF2014 success

National Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) exercise confirms School of Civil Engineering at the UoL is an international centre of excellence for research outputs, impact and environment.

School of Civil Engineering (SoCE) was assessed by the Civil and Construction Engineering sub-panel, as part of a joint submission with the University’s Institute of Transport Studies (ITS).

The overall result for the joint submission is a research quality profile of 3.04, which means that research activity in ITS and SoCE is judged to be ‘internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour’.

Across the School of Civil Engineering and the Institute for Transport Studies the University has one of the largest research groups in the UK looking at cutting edge responses to key societal challenges requiring an inter-disciplinary approach. This is reflected in our position as 2nd in the national league table on research power (a measure capturing both quality and the number of staff submitted).
