Engineering and Computing Careers Fair success

The Engineering and Computing Careers Fair which took place in November has been hailed a great success.

It attracted over 900 students in search of summer internships, industrial year placements and graduate opportunities.

The fair was attended by 45 employers from a wide range of disciplines, including Buro Happold, Essar Oil, IBM, Jaguar Land Rover, Network Rail, Thales, Unilever and many more, as well as several local SMEs. Parkinson Court was transformed into a hub of activity throughout the day, enabling valuable networking opportunities for students.

The event was extremely well received. One student said “the event was very good, it was great to have an engineering specific fair just for us!” and another commented “it was great to see representation from smaller Leeds based companies at the event too”.

Employers attending the fair were impressed by the quality of the students, commenting on their level of professionalism, motivation and focus on the importance of securing work experience as early as the first year of their degree. As part of the Faculty of Engineering’s employability programme, students were supported in the run up to the event with the University’s Careers Centre staff guiding them through industry focused research and networking skills development, messages students have clearly taken on board following employer feedback.
