International workshop to bring together early career researchers from the UK and Vietnam

Dr Des McLernon from The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering is coordinating a British Council funded workshop to be held in Vietnam in February next year.

The workshop, Recent Advances and Developments in Communication Systems, will take place between 17-20 February 2014 in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and is jointly organised by Dr McLernon and Professor Pham Van Tuan (Danang University of Science and Technology).

Its remit is to bring together "early career researchers" in both countries working in the fields of signal processing and communications - important topics in the technological development of Vietnam. This will provide a unique opportunity for sharing research expertise and networking. There will also be a focus on building links for future collaboration.

During the workshop, early career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research in the form of short presentations and engage in discussions with both young researchers and more experienced academics from the UK and Vietnam.

Government officials from relevant ministries will also attend to join in the debate. The intention is to foster research links between Vietnam and the UK, with a view to future collaboration in terms of publications, joint workshops and research funding.
