Profile
I am a chartered engineer with a background in structural dynamics and currently serve as an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds. Before this appointment, I held a four-year individual fellowship funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Wrocław University of Science and Technology (2020-2024). I was also a Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the University of Leicester (2015-2020), where I served as the director of the Dynamics, Vibration and Acoustics Laboratory (2019-2020) and founded the Biomechanics and Immersive Technology Laboratory (2018-2020). Prior to that, I worked as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Sheffield (2014-2015) and the University of Exeter (2014). I was a Guest Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds (2015-2018) and an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol (2014-2022).
In the industrial sector, I served as a Scientific Advisor at the Advanced Structural Dynamics Evaluation Centre (ASDEC; 2015-2018) – the UK's first 3D measurement and modal analysis facility using laser Doppler vibrometers, and as a Project Engineer at Full Scale Dynamics (2014-2015), a consultancy specialising in the vibration serviceability of structures. My work as a consultant in structural dynamics covers bridges, lightweight floors, and stadiums.
I am a member of the Royal Society International Exchanges Committee (2024-2026).
Research interests
At the centre of my research are humans and the built environment, and their multifaceted interaction. My research interests are encapsulated by the following themes:
-
structural dynamics, in particular vibration serviceability;
-
structural health monitoring;
-
sensors and signal processing;
-
stability and control of human gait and posture;
-
integration of sensory information during the execution of motor tasks;
-
crowd dynamics;
-
virtual and mixed reality.
I have supervised PhD projects within these research themes at the University of Leeds, University of Leicester, University of Bristol and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
