On track? Is Leeds at the centre of a railway revolution?

From HS2 to the city station redevelopment, rail in Leeds is changing profoundly. Come to a discussion with Network Rail, HS2 and, Council Leader Judith Blake about our railway future.

Over the next 20 years, Leeds residents will witness a radical change in how they experience rail travel, nationally, regionally and locally.

Some measures are around the corner: improvements to Leeds City Station in readiness for the closure of City Square to general traffic, plans for new railway stations near Leeds Bradford Airport, Thorpe Park & the White Rose Centre and new rolling stock for some of our regional routes.

In the longer term, we are now entering a crucial phase in the run up to seeking parliamentary approval for HS2 to the North. At the same time, Transport for the North is pressing for a significant increase in investment in new and existing lines to open up new routes, improve frequencies and reduce journey times, delivering a fully integrated rail service to enhance opportunities for travel for jobs, education and leisure.

These interventions could have a profound impact on the economic, social and cultural profile of the city of Leeds in the years to come.

To make sense of this and to debate where rail travel is heading, we are holding a discussion event on the evening of Tuesday 4th June 2019, commencing at 6pm (refreshments from 5.30pm) The event is free.

Representatives from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Transport for the North, HS2, Network Rail and Leeds City Council will give short presentations, followed by discussion, debate and Q & A.

An exhibition illustrating key proposals will be available on the evening.
