Justin Ramchurn

Why did you choose to study Aviation Technology with Pilot Studies?

I decided to study Aviation because it set an excellent foundation for my future career as an airline pilot. I decided to study this course at Leeds because, after visiting other universities offering similar courses, I found Leeds offered the whole package. It's a university with an excellent reputation, great facilities and located in a fun, student-friendly city.

What's the best aspect of the course?

While completing the Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) was definitely a highlight of the course, being surrounded by so many like-minded course-mates has allowed me to make many friends. I am still working alongside those people today – two years after graduating.

What activities were you involved in outside of your studies?

I was involved in the Aviation Society (AvSoc) and, during my final year, was the AvSoc President.

Where are you working?

I am currently completing my Airline Transport Pilot's Licence at Flight Training Europe, Jerez as a Flybe Cadet. Once this is completed in the next few months, I should become a First Officer for Flybe on the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 or Embraer 195 fleet.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

There were so many experiences at university that helped shape me for my career. However, the most important experience was being involved in the teamwork-orientated projects. Also, the excellent social aspect of the university and the knowledge I’ve gained from lecturers, peers and guest speakers have been invaluable.
