Dr David Harbottle

I joined the University of Leeds in 2014 as a Lecturer in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering. Having graduated with a MEng and PhD in Chemical Engineering I spent 5 years working in North America at the City College of New York and the University of Alberta on challenges encountered in the production of crude oil. While at the University of Alberta I worked with many oil producers and chemical suppliers developing the Canadian heavy oil reserve.

Now at Leeds my research focuses on the complex chemistry of crude oil and challenges in flow assurance to ensure that we produce this valuable resource efficiently and minimize environmental impact. At Leeds I am a member of the Petroleum Engineering management board which is a cross-Faculty strategic partnership to engage with industry and maintain Leeds’ position as a world-leading petroleum research community. I’m also an Associate Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

I serve as a member on the School Taught Student Education Committee. Together with the student support team in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering we do our upmost to ensure that students have an enjoyable learning journey at Leeds.
