Saad graduated with a masters degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2018. He is currently a manager working at DrillTech Corporation.

Postgraduate life at Leeds

Saad chose to pursue his masters degree in Electronic and Electrical engineering from the University of Leeds because he felt the course was an up-to-date programme covering broad engineering topics. He was able to study modules related to novel technologies like renewable energy, medical electronics and embedded systems which other institutions did not offer.

He said, “The best aspect of the course was we had the opportunity to work on projects in every module. This meant that everything we learned wasn’t just theoretical knowledge, as the project work helped challenged myself and my peers to implement the engineering concepts practically. This method of teaching gave me the confidence that my theoretical concepts are applicable in real engineering fields.”

Project work

“My Masters’ project focused on the development of Novel modular multilevel power converter topology simulation as well as its’ hardware model. The project directed me to propose a power converter topology and I contributed to my field of interest as a researcher. I believed that the work I had put in for working on my Masters project helped me develop new knowledge and skills to solve complex engineering problems – and that certainly gave me a competitive edge in job interviews.”

Professional life after Leeds

All of Saad’s hardwork paid off as he graduated from Leeds with a distinction. He is currently in a managerial position working at DrillTech Corporation, a power system installation engineering company. The role involves reviewing clients’ designs; scheduling, managing and presenting project activities; allocate resources; evaluate contractor performance and material requirements. He is also planning to continue his postgraduate journey by doing a PhD as well as writing a book on power convertors.
