Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds? 

Having done my undergraduate course in Electronics and Communication while still having a massive interest in the field of Mechanical Engineering brought me to pursue a master’s degree in Mechatronics and Robotics. After having an extensive study from previous students who has studied in the University of Leeds brought to my attention the amazing facility, leading research and the outstanding academic staff the university offers. I was fascinated by the course modules the programme had to offer and was more fascinated understanding what the field would provide me with. Leeds University as one of the top universities in the UK in various multidisciplinary fields, the course moulds students into new routes of industrial excellence. 

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why? 

The best aspect of the course is the opportunity to be a part of two schools together as the programme is a joint venture with the mechanical and the electronics and electrical engineering schools giving the best of both ends. The schools deliver quality teaching and top of the line amenities, in the laboratories and teaching spaces, always reaching out to deliver knowledge, experiences and opportunities, and bringing the best out of the students.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed. 

Apart from the Master's thesis project based on a robotic platform helping me learn about the advancements made in the field of robotics, Leeds University has offered me to be a part of the Formula Student team which is a massive project bringing people from different engineering fields together in building a single seat racing car competition at the annual Formula Student UK event. The project aims to provide an ideal opportunity for the students to deliver a competitive product with industry engineering standards thus helping them demonstrate and improve their finesse bringing university to workplace transition. 

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students? 

Leeds is a city which is never short of things to do. It has got the best of an urban city life with a growing economy and a countryside with some of the most breath-taking landscapes. Leeds has an excellent variety of options available to offer for the students looking to explore the area or to have a break from their studies. The Leeds city centre is a shopping haven that can leave one spoilt for choice. The nightlife is another aspect the city takes pride in. From Leeds University Union’s much loved Friday favourite Fruity to regular great DJs and edgy club nights around the city, there’s something to offer for everyone’s taste. 

What are your ambitions for the future? 

In the future, I look forward to work in the disciplinary field of robotics in the Automotive industry and to be a part of the autonomous driving movement. 

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career? 

Knowing someone’s self-worth. Socialising and meeting hundreds of new people polished my people skills further and this enabled me to understand how and when to interact with people belonging from different backgrounds. It taught me how to be sentimental and emotional in unexpected situations. Living away from home gave me a whole new perspective of life, challenging my weaknesses to get a job done and helped me become an independent man at my own cost. 

What would you say to students coming to do the same course? 

With a lot of opportunities available in the university, its best to take enough time and decide on the field to excel on. It will be a great experience to develop one's skills being part of the Leeds alumni.
