What course are you studying?
MSc (Eng) Engineering, Technology and Business Management
Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
I decided to study at the University of Leeds because it gave me the opportunity to study a Master’s degree in one of the top universities of the world; as one of the top 100, the University of Leeds boosts your professional career. On the other hand, you live an incredible cultural diversity.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
First, the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Second, the diversity of the modules. We have many models to choose from, which gives us the opportunity to get a broader view. People can choose the path to become more specialised with similar modules.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.
My Master’s and industry dissertation projects gave me the opportunity to be involved in some of the newest technological paradigms. It’s interesting that on one hand, you have the newest technological trends, and on the other one you see potential business disruptions. I am also the 2016/2017 Course Representative for my programme!
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is small and manageable city that has it all. It has all the things we like about big cities like malls, shops, pubs, restaurants, parks, etc. But in a walkable distance. It is a calm city where you can feel safe at all hours. It doesn’t matter the hour, you will find people around at all times.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I want to continue my career in a consulting or high-tech company where I can apply the things I learned along with my previous working experience. Also, I would like to start my own consulting company.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
With all the group assignments, you get to know people from so many places and you get to know the real context of each one of them. We become more tolerant and respectful to them. Sometimes people judge without knowing and having to work with so many people, force you to be more patient and open to all.
What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
Enjoy your time at Leeds, don’t be shy, and speak to everyone. Most of us are international students, we are new to this city and we don’t know people here. However, most of us want to get out somewhere and we want to chat with someone. Just go to the Student’s Union and try new things (there are many clubs and societies), or go through the city and explore.
