Profile

I am a Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds. Following a Masters degree in Mechanical and Medical Engineering, I completed a PhD using computational biomechanical modelling to investigate the role of musculoskeletal forces on the development of trabecular bone growth in the juvenile pelvis. During my research and academic career, I have worked on a range of projects that have investigated the functional relationship between bone growth/adaptation and mechanical force. I have experience of using a range of computational modelling techniques (three-dimensional imaging processing, multi-body dynamic modelling and finite element analysis) to construct musculoskeletal models of a range of bones and taxa.

Research interests

I am a member of the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE). I primarily focus on integrating experimentation and computational biomechanical modelling to: 1. investigate skull biomechanics for clinical purposes (e.g. dental implants, joint disorders etc); 2. investigate how different fracture management techniques influence the rate of healing in long bones, with the aim of developing models to predict healing times in response to these management techniques.

I also have projects on the design and application of computational biomechanical models in the Reduction, Refinement and Replacement (3Rs) of animal experiments.
