This proposal, DesMEMO, will develop a novel class of materials for next-generation magnetoelectric memories. These devices will fulfill the need for dimensionally-scalable and energy-efficient logics, addressing the limitations of the current technology. The project will revive the bismuth-based double perovskites (Bi2BB'/O6) which uniquely combine room-temperature ferroelectricity and net magnetization, leveraging epitaxial growth techniques. This research will solve the unpredictable switching issues in the current magnetoelectric material BiFeO3, caused by its complex magnetism.
