Research project
Developing a revolutionary hip implant for life
- Start date: 1 July 2023
- End date: 30 September 2024
- Partners and collaborators: Garland Surgical
- Primary investigator: Sophie Williams
- Co-investigators: Professor Ruth Wilcox
- External co-investigators: Simon Mifsud (external PI)
The aim of the overall proposal is to provide evidence to bring a novel total hip replacement (GarlandHip) to market. The main objectives of the research to be undertaken at the University of Leeds are:
- To demonstrate that frictional torques at the stem taper interface with the abductor are not detrimental to the performance of the prosthesis
- To assess the GarlandHip under clinically relevant load and motion conditions to assess wear of the polyethylene components
