- Supervisors: Professor Christopher Marrows, Dr Thomas Moore
Profile
Christopher Barker joined the condensed matter group in the school of physics and astronomy in 2019. He works with Professor Christopher Marrows investigating the behaviour of skyrmions in a synthetic antiferromagnet as part of an EPSRC funded grant in collabortaion with the University of Glasgow and other stakeholders. His PhD is jointly funded through an EPRSC iCASE studentship with the National Physical Laboratory who lend their extensive scanning probe microscopy knowledge to the project. His skills include sputter deposition of thin films and multilayers, characterisation through x-ray techniques and magnetometry, and various forms of magnetic microscopy including MFM, XMCD-PEEM and XMCD-STXM. Outisde of the lab he enjoys various sports including fencing, climbing running and ice hockey.
