2D Material Liquid Crystals for Optoelectronics and Photonics Abstract: The merging of the materials science paradigms of liquid crystals and 2D materials promises superb new opportunities for the advancement of the fields of optoelectronics and photonics. Two-dimensional (2D) nanocomposite materials with dynamically tunable liquid crystalline properties have recently emerged as a highly-promising class of novel functional materials, opening new routes within a wide variety of potential applications from the deposition of highly uniform layers and heterostructures, to novel display technologies. In my talk, I will review the most recent advances in the application and applicability of these materials within the fields of optoelectronics and photonics; introduce the underlying concepts that underpin these recent technological advances; and provide an overview of the synthetic routes towards such 2D nanocomposite materials.
Host: Dr Mamatha Nagaraj.
