Why did you choose to study for a PhD at the University of Leeds?

Being interested in pursuing a profession in research, studying a PhD was the next step for my career’s goal. The University of Leeds offered me the opportunity to study in one of the world’s top universities and to work with a highly recognized research group. This, along with the exciting possibility of residing in a vibrant and multicultural city shaped my decision to study at the University of Leeds.

Tell us about your research

My research is a theoretical study about how atoms are affected by hypothetical particles (like those of Dark Matter) and gravitational waves, and how the strange features of quantum mechanics can be used to detect these interactions. It could allow us to observe the universe in a completely different way and to better understand the laws of nature.

What is your favourite part of studying at Leeds?

There is always something fun to do at Leeds, from physical activities to cultural events, and very nice places to visit. Additionally, you can meet people from countries all around the globe, but also individuals with similar backgrounds to yours; I have been able to meet some of the most amazing people during my time at Leeds.

What activities do you take part in outside of your studies?

I often participate in science outreach activities, as I consider them very important for both society and the scientific community. In my leisure time, I like reading and watching films. I also have a passion for dancing, but not only latin dances; I was part of the University of Leeds Dancesport society for several years, which was a wonderful experience.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I want to become a leading researcher in my field and work in a prestigious organisation. I hope one day I will be able to generate a great contribution to Physics and sciences in general.

Any advice for prospective students?

You will not regret studying at University of Leeds. If you decide to come, focus on your studies, manage your time and try to learn as much as possible, but also have fun, try new activities and make the most of your time at Leeds.
