Our laboratories used by undergraduate and Masters students are equipped with the latest technology for practical, hands-on learning. This hands-on approach features across our Physics and Physics and Astronomy courses.
Astrophysics students have access to our observatory, situated at the top of the Sir William Henry Bragg building. This purpose-built facility includes two 35cm telescopes, complete with sensitive CCD detectors capable of multi-wavelength imaging.
Our dedicated collaborative theory lab spaces enable students and academics to come together and engage in collaborative work enabling a deeper understanding of physical systems. This will allow you to join a community of researchers committed to exploring theoretical physics and leveraging state-of-the-art resources for comprehensive academic growth.
Take a virtual 360 tour of our Physics Study Zone, First Year Lab, Second Year lab, and Dark Room.
Lecture theatres that optimise your learning
You’ll learn through a combination of taught and practical sessions, with access to the following facilities:
- Large and modern lecture theatres, with wheelchair access
- Multiple seminar rooms for teaching smaller classes and undertaking group meetings
- Latest audio-visual technology and presentation equipment
- Lecture capture recording allows you to view presentations after they have happened.
Innovative research laboratories
If you study a postgraduate degree or decide to undertake an integrated Masters, you may have the opportunity to work in our research-grade labs.
During your final research project, you may also have access to some of our research-grade equipment used by our academics and researchers at the forefront of science.
Study facilities that support your work
From 24-hour computer clusters, libraries and silent study areas when you need to finish an assignment without interruptions to interactive spaces, cafes and group rooms for collaborative project work — there’s always somewhere to go on campus to suit your study preference.
