What experiences at Leeds have particularly helped with your career?
My postgraduate studies at the University of Leeds have introduced me a variety of topics in the interdisciplinary areas of nanotechnology, biology and physics and their medical applications. I had the opportunities to conduct research projects and laboratory experiments in these areas.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Leeds?
The University of Leeds is one of the best universities in the UK. Since my previous city was very close to Leeds, I often visited Leeds and liked it very much. In addition, I like the architectural style of the university.
What were the best aspects of studying on your course and why?
I chose the University of Leeds because you can study a huge range of optional modules. The modules include almost all areas of physics, and even contain some interdisciplinary courses. I am very interested in biophysics, so I choose the University of Leeds to study my course.
Did you work on any interesting projects at university? If so, can you please tell me more about it?
In my master’s project, I studied the biofilm formation of oral bacteria with atomic force microscopy. I wanted to understand the physical structure of biofilm and the possible cause of decreased susceptibility to antimicrobial agents.
The research and laboratory experiences allowed me to define problems, seek solutions, design experiments, and evaluate experimental methods and results. These experiences greatly trained my analytical thinking and enriched my understanding of solution-seeking approaches and analytical methods in physics and biology. Furthermore, I have improved my laboratory skills and gained a good knowledge of analytical and measuring instruments.
What’s the most important thing you learned during your time at university?
Problem-solving, independent thinking and good study habits.
Would you recommend your course to others?
Certainly, yes! The lectures were very nice and helped me a lot, giving a lot of good advice. The diversity of course selection is also a reason I’d recommend studying at Leeds.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with new students?
Work hard, study hard and enjoy the life in Leeds.
