Research interests
I am currently Pro Dean for Student Engineering for the Faculty of Engineering. I am a member of Institute of Design, Robotics and Optimisation within the School of Mechanical Engineering and am leading the institutes research activities in the area of next generation health care robotic devices. I am also Chair of TILT, a group tasked with encouraging innovation in teaching and learning within the School of Mechanical Engineering.
My background in dynamics and control, was gained at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Southampton University were I obtained my PhD and undertook postdoctoral research in the field of aero engine vibration control, in collaboration with Rolls Royce. After moving to Leeds in 1997, my research interests broadened to include various automotive and medical engineering applications. I currently lead the engineering aspects of a number of multidisciplinary research projects aimed at developing intelligent systems to deliver automated restorative physical therapy.
While being at Leeds I have taught a number of modules, and at the moment I deliver a large compulsory module in Vibration and Control to all our undergraduates. To support greater access to our excellent laboratory facilities, I continue to be responsible for ReLOAD, a system we have developed to enable any student to access our equipment live via the web.

Student education
While being at Leeds I have taught a number of modules, and at the moment I deliver a large compulsory module in Vibration and Control to all our undergraduates. To support greater access to our excellent laboratory facilities, I continue to be responsible for ReLOAD, a system we have developed to enable any student to access our equipment live via the web. Each year i supervise a wide range of final year projects, mostly related to my interest in the dynamics and control of robotics for mecical applications.
